More Safety Thanks to Focus on Essentials

BURSCHEID, Germany, September 11 /PRNewswire/ --

-- Johnson Controls Presents New Head-Up Display With Vehicle-Independent Integration

Johnson Controls, one of the world's leading suppliers of automotive interior systems, electronics and batteries is providing a Head Medium Display for the new 5008 model, which is premiering at the International Motor Show (IAA), and the Peugeot 3008 model. This optional device displays key vehicle information such as speed and distance readings directly in the driver's primary field of vision, so there is no need for drivers to take their eyes off the road. The projected image appears at a virtual distance of around 1.80 m, which the eye can read without any further accommodation (time to focus). In addition, the company is developing and producing the seating system, headliner, center information display, body controllers and battery for the Peugeot 3008 and for the Peugeot 5008.

"We have developed a unique head-up display that is reminiscent of an aircraft cockpit," said Achim Hosenfeld, Vice President and General Manager, Electronics Division Europe, Africa and South America at Johnson Controls. With this new Head Medium Display (HMD) from Johnson Controls, the graphic information is projected onto a fold-out, transparent plastic polycarbonate pane in the driver's field of vision that comes out via the hood. The pane is highly-polished and has specific mechanical characteristics to prevent optical defects. Peugeot thus puts high-priority information directly in the driver's primary field of vision. The content and type of presentation (color and typeface) was defined by the automaker and engineered by Johnson Controls into a convenient and highly ergonomic system.
