Racing:Heart - The Soccer Exhibit - From April 4-July 6, 2008

VIENNA, Austria, April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Soccer fever is spreading all over Europe. Before the big event, the European Cup, even begins, fans can already indulge in unfettered soccer enthusiasm: On April 4, 2008 the Technical Museum in Vienna opened its interactive exhibit "herz:rasen - die Fussballausstellung" ("racing:heart - the Soccer Exhibit") at the Vienna Art House.

On 2,000 square meters, the exhibit explores soccer, the phenomenon from technical, cultural history as well as artistic, and last, but not least, athletic perspectives. It focuses primarily on the history of European soccer of the past 30 years. It tells the stories of players, fans, of venues, of techniques - on the soccer field, during practice and in the media.

Numerous interactive stations beckon visitors to hone their "dive" skills, assume the role of a sports commentator or retroactively reverse the infamous 0:1 defeat of the Austrian national team by the Faroe Islands.

Soccer fans are literally touched by the passion of soccer history as they study the wide array of exhibits. The list of the exhibits, which look back on a proud history, is long and impressive. Just a few examples: the original Wembley ball, the shoes and jersey worn by Franz Beckenbauer back in 1974, the jogging suit of legendary coach Ernst Happel, Wayne Rooney's shoes, a jersey that once belonged to Dino Zoff, pieces of the lawn cut from the Olympic Arena in Rome, where the 1990 World Cup finals were held, and more.

Artist renderings covering the topic of soccer complement the exhibit and illustrate some of the issues raised. The works of 21 European artists are not shown in isolation, but have been fully integrated into the texture of the exhibit.

The large-scale entertainment program, which is being presented in cooperation with scientific and cultural institutions, adds its own take on the enthralling experience of soccer and offers ample space for discussions.

The exhibit is the result of a partnership between "2008 - Austria is on the Ball" and Vienna's Technical Museum.
