PARIS, November 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Valeo announces today that its Park4U(TM) system has been selected as a finalist for the 2008 Automotive News PACE Awards in the Product Europe category. This ultrasonic technology-based driving assistance system, a world premiere, automatically steers the car into the parking slot in a few seconds. Drivers can take their hands off the wheel, but keep their eyes on the road as they control the braking and acceleration of the operation at any time.
The PACE Award, jointly presented by Automotive News, Microsoft, SAP and Transportation Research Center Inc., is viewed around the world as the industry symbol of innovation. This nomination follows three successive years of PACE Awards won by Valeo: in 2005 for the Lane Departure Warning System, in 2006 for the StARS mico-hybrid system and in 2007 for Blind Spot Detection system.
This announcement also follows a series of success for Park4U(TM). First equipped on the Volkswagen Touran, the Park4U(TM) system now also equips the Tiguan and the Cross Touran. Nine new contracts with five European car brands were also recently announced. Last September during the IAA Frankfurt Auto Show, Valeo successfully presented the new functionalities of the system to the press and professionals, and received enthusiastic feedback from the general public.
