The first-ever ECO POWER Conference - International Renewable Energy Forum, which will take place from November 28-30, 2007 in Florianopolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil plans to promote the advancement of knowledge about renewable energy and it use in Brazil, preservation of the environment and generating business. The International Renewable Energy Forum is designed for businessmen, energy and environmental specialists, financial institutions and investors, politicians, and professionals from a variety of areas.

"We expect the ECO POWER Conference to be very useful, generating scientific and business interest and making Brazil and the rest of the world aware of the subject. We are creating a new market that the revolution in renewable energy technology is promoting," states the Director of ECO POWER, Ricardo Bornhausen. The Brazilian energy matrix is clean, says Bornhausen, and sustainable energy is generating a new tendency and new business environment, both of which are here to stay. "Thirty years ago, we produced the first alcohol-powered car. Brazil is a pioneer and could assume leadership in the production of clean energy in South America," says Bornhausen. "At the conference, we will address financing, which is so necessary for this market's growth, carbon credits and even marketing -- for example, the importance of being carbon-free."
This is the first large-scale initiative on the subject in Brazil, as well as on the international stage. According to Bornhausen, the goal is to encourage discussion on renewable energy -- which is taking place in an isolated, sporadic manner in Brazil -- promoting solutions and questions in annual forums, involving business and investments. ECO POWER will encompass a wide range of subjects: wind power, climate changes caused by global warming, biodiesel and ethanol, the Sustainable Amazon Plan and carbon neutralization, among others.
The Government of the State of Santa Catarina is sponsoring the forum, whose objective is to discuss public policy for sustainable development. "This event will take place in the right place at the right time," said Governor Luiz Henrique da Silveira. The event is based in Florianopolis, the capital of Santa Catarina, which, in 2006, was considered one of the world's 10 most dynamic cities, according to Newsweek, for generating innovation and a concentration of talent and growth in a sustainable manner.
