Johnson Controls Presents Numerous Innovations at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit

BURSCHEID, Germany and DETROIT, Michigan, January 5 /PRNewswire/ --

Making it better, for you

Johnson Controls (NYSE: JCI), one of the world's leading suppliers of automotive interior systems, electronics and batteries, is presenting innovative solutions for the automotive interiors of today and the future at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) from 7- 21 January 2007. For the 13th time in succession, the company will be serving as event sponsor and exhibitor, displaying its broad range of products on 800 square metres in room D2-15 of the Cobo Center in Detroit. Two press conferences are also to be held as well: On Sunday, 7 January 2007, at 8:30 a.m. and on Tuesday, 9 January 2007, at 12:00 midday.

At the first press conference on Sunday, the company is showing new solutions that have already been developed to series production maturity. These include flexible seating, modern floor consoles and overhead systems, in addition to innovations in storage space and electronics. At the second press conference, Johnson Controls will be presenting further products and technologies. Highlights here are a new environmentally friendly seat foam, enhancements in head restraint systems, and power solutions for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

"Continuous improvement is a deeply held value throughout Johnson Controls, and the 'Making It Better' theme at this year's North American International Auto Show exemplifies that," said Jeff Williams, Group Vice President and General Manager of Johnson Controls. "We're strongly committed to delivering innovations and improvements - on an ongoing basis - that benefit both automakers and automotive consumers."

With this in mind the company has developed solutions, for example, to optimize the automotive interiors of today and the future.

Attractive designs and more comfort in all product areas The innovations in seating systems include the Slim Seat. This new concept for front seats features a particularly thin seatback providing more legroom for the passengers in the second row of seats. The active head restraint enables compliance with the new safety standards for anti-whiplash systems.

From Interiors, Johnson Controls is exhibiting a newly designed floor console with more storage space, additional functions, improved ergonomics and an attractive appearance.

Additionally, the Electronics division will be introducing the Mobile Device Gateway - a technology that transforms complex, em-bedded automotive electronics, for the first time, into a new systems approach. It allows the latest consumer electronics - including cell phones, MP3 players, personal navigation devices, and more - to be seamlessly connected to automotive controls and displays. And HomeLink, the integrated garage door opener, also plays a role at the show. Using its remote control the driver is able to operate garage doors, gates, locks, alarm and lighting systems, as well as other safety and convenience devices. In the near future, this product will be available with voice-controlled technology that makes it even easier for consumers to operate the system.

The range of products on show is completed by numerous solutions from the Battery division. Apart from products and technologies for conventional cars, innovations being exhibited include those for the current-generation hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), and near-future plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

Johnson Controls is not only an exhibitor, but also the main sponsor of the AutoWeek Design Forum for the 11th consecutive year. The one-day event will be held on 10 January 2007 at the Cobo Center and is a meeting place for people from various backgrounds and professions who embrace design as the ultimate factor that distinguishes products. Last year's AutoWeek Design Forum attracted more than 700 participants, including students, car design professionals, and designers from other industries.
